Vowel Chart

So today's little creation was born of both student and teacher need.  This year I've been focusing a lot more on building fluency with sounds.  My first year I was kinda like ... "hey, I teach first grade, they should all know their letter sounds from kindergarten, duh."  I now realize that while most of my students come to me knowing their letter sounds, this doesn't mean they are super quick and fluent, especially when blending sounds together or recognizing chunks of sounds.  There are a number of fabulous short vowel, blends and digraphs charts available that have been super helpful for my littles.  They recognize blends in words without hesitation!  I wanted to continue these quick sound fluency drills as we moved into long vowels and advanced vowel patterns, so I created these vowel digraph charts:

The front side has each individual spelling pattern, and the back side has patterns grouped by the sound they make.  The back side also has a flip the vowel component to help them recognize letters/patterns that make more than one sound.  I will use these as a quick warm-up during my small groups.  Students will use fingers or fun reading pointers and quickly name all their sounds!  I'm offering these charts as a freebie in hopes that you all might be able to use them as well!  Just click on either picture for your copy.

As for the teacher need ... it was pretty much essential that I create something using the ADORABLE new fonts I found this weekend.  Two of my favorite TpT sellers, Cara Carroll and Cupcake for the Teacher both released fabulous font packages this weekend!  Check them out!

Have a great week!

  6. Can I just say, this is such a cutie! I love it! On Monday, I plan to laminate it and put it up on my resource bulletin board behind where I teach my strategy groups and work with my RTI. It is so nice to have it all on one document with such attractive graphics to boot!
    Thanks,

  8. Amanda, I love your materials and hope to use the vowel sound charts with adult ESL students. My only question is in the flip sound box. After the c is a cat, but what is the character for the soft c sound? I don't know what to call the cute creature with smiley face.
Thank you so much! Linda, a literacy volunteer
